Johnson For Westchester

True Democratic Leadership. True Democratic Experience.

Christopher A. Johnson obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Long Island University-C.W. Post Campus. After graduation in 2006, he felt called to serve, and immediately joined Andrea Stewart-Cousins' ultimately successful campaign for State Senate, canvassing Yonkers and talking to residents about changes they believed were needed in the city. Following the election, Christopher continued his service; playing a key role in the Senator’s re-election campaigns, as well as in her Yonkers District Office, first as a Community Liaison to Yonkers and eventually as her Deputy Chief of Staff.

Christopher believes that education can pave the path to success, so while working in the Senator’s office, he continued his education, intending to better help improve the quality of education for others. In May 2011, he completed his Master’s Degree in Education at Fordham University, concentrating in School Counseling and Personnel Services. Through Yonkers Partners in Education, Christopher volunteered in Roosevelt High School’s Counseling Center, lending his experiences in college to high school students preparing for the college application process and college life itself.

In September 2011, Christopher won the Democratic primary to become the Council member representing the 1st District on the Yonkers City Council and went on to win the general election in November.  Christopher’s focus on the City Council has been fighting for equity in education   affordable housing and local jobs for people in the community.  In November 2015, Christopher was overwhelmingly re-elected to continue serving the residents of the 1st Council District.

Christopher is the eldest of three siblings and lives in Yonkers with Tai, his wife, expanding on his deep family roots in Yonkers, which span several generations – including his late Great-Grandmother Evelyn Johnson.
