Fighting for Criminal Justice
Protecting the rights of low-income defendants in the criminal justice system is a moral responsibility. The right to a fair trial requires access to quality defense, regardless of an individual’s socioeconomic status. The county and the state need to each do their part to keep our justice system just, an issue that particularly affects youth of color. In their cases, adequate defense can determine whether they receive opportunities to better themselves down the line or not. On the County Legislature, I will advocate for those most in need.
