Election Day is Tuesday, September 12th and I am writing to ask for your support for Christopher A. Johnson for County Legislator.
Councilman Johnson’s service for the past six years has touched the lives of Yonkers residents. After Hurricane Sandy, a street light on North Broadway and Hudson Terrace went out. As District Leader, I called the councilman and altered him to the safety hazard. Within a matter of days, the light was restored.
His leadership in passing the Yonkers Affordable Housing ordinance resulted in a requirement that developers make at least 10% of any new development over 100 units in size affordable. He has given attention to seniors, introducing an increase in the cap for the Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE), which freezes rents for more seniors. For our children, Christopher has fought for increased funding in public schools, expanded library hours to include Saturdays and Sundays, and reinstated crossing guards.
Christopher’s work on the City Council is why I trust him to represent me at the next level. In many ways he will be building on what he’s already been doing for us. His concerns for our children extends to the youngest; he will work to expand access to safe and affordable childcare, so that parents can work and be sure their children are in good hands. Seeing the direct connection between affordable housing and homelessness, Christopher will make sure homeless shelters are kept to humane standards and support policies that prevent homelessness altogether. On the County Legislature he will also work to improve access to public transportation, to keep commuters, families, and seniors moving.
When I stand with Christopher, I do not stand alone. In his campaign for County Legislator Councilman Johnson has been endorsed by Westchester Putnam Central Labor Body (AFL-CIO), Communications Workers of America (CWA), SEIU-32BJ and the Yonkers Federation of Teachers (YFT), among other unions. Community organizations like Lower Hudson Valley Progressive Action Network (LHVPAN) and Community Voices Heard Power (CVHP) also support this campaign.
For all of these reasons, and more, I am voting for Christopher A. Johnson on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. I hope that you will join me. Thank you!
